In our first release, one of the key experiences we gave Jamie (our persona) was the ability to see how a student was performing on a standard. We heard feedback that the visualization was overwhelming, so we went to work to identify how we could make improvements not only to the visualization, but also to the data behind it.
Jamie now wanted more detailed information about students' current knowledge levels, what they might potentially struggle with, and why.
Goal: Give teachers a one-stop shop to help with instruction, know their students, and find content.

Before
Dashboard for a specific class that shows an array of widgets. This dashboard shows class attendance, a gradebook, forecast of projected class performance, class comparison charts, and student notes.
After
I refreshed colors and created a cohesive look and feel that is used across the entire product. I updated the global navigation so to reduce vertical space and implemented the use of tabs to create a cleaner UI.

Before
Knowledge levels for a student were shown, but it was very unclear and hard to read. There were also plenty of issues with accessibility as well as clarity.
After
Showing the data for each district standard in cards increased ease of scalability and decreased cognitive load. I used a color palette as well as type (for accessibility) to quickly show Jamie differences between mastery levels.

Element class observation
Why: As a teacher, Jamie needed a way to quickly adjust the knowledge levels of multiple students.
What: Jamie can now update knowledge levels of multiple students or an entire class quickly by simply tapping on the new knowledge level she would like to update. She will no longer have to adjust knowledge levels individually for each student.

Enlight impact
Why: It was important to maintain consistency between the iPad app and the desktop product.
What: When Jamie makes updates to her class, it will add a new teacher observation to each of those student’s list of Learning Observations in Enlight. If she adds a class observation, a default title “Class Observation” will apply.
